Trident Medical Services

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.

Depending on the number of staff in your company, and in which industry you work, it may also be a statutory requirement for you to have trained first-aiders. We can work with you to undertake a risk assessment, establishing what your first aid requirements are to meet the regulations, and we can run the training course/s appropriate for your organisation.

We offer a range of courses (including accredited Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications) that we deliver via our partners, so however straightforward, complex, or specific your particular requirements, we will ensure the course will be right for you.

First aid practices and guidelines change all the time, so it's important that your first-aiders' training is kept up to date.

All our first-aid training is carried out on your own site.

When your employees are exposed to hazards, noise, chemicals, vibrating tools and anything that may impact upon their health they need to understand the health implications. Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 as an employer you are required to provide information, instruction, training and supervision as necessary to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health and safety at work of your employees.

Our highly experienced and qualified occupational health specialists can visit your workplace and help you to carry out a risk assessment to understand what training may be required. We can work with you to devise a training schedule and we can deliver training on the health aspects specific to your environment. We want to ensure that all of your employees understand what they have to do and why they have to do it.

Training is tailored to your specific workplace needs and delivery can be on your site or off-site, whichever is most appropriate.

Mental health problems can affect people at any time of life in different ways and can impact on someone's ability to be in work and effectively carry out their role. Consequently, many employers are now taking a proactive approach to dealing with mental health issues in the workplace by offering mental health first aid training to staff.

Our two-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course helps you to ensure your staff know how to identify the common symptoms and learn how to act upon them.

This internationally recognised training course is run by our partner, an accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor and an experienced occupational health specialist practitioner with many years' experience in helping managers and HR professionals to support employees with mental health problems. 

What is Mental Health First Aid?

MHFA is the help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is obtained. It does not teach people to be therapists. However, it does teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.

Who is the course for?

MHFA is for any members of staff who want to increase their knowledge and confidence in identifying early signs of mental ill health and learn the right skills for supporting others. It is particularly appropriate for employees who are responsible for staff or who interact with the public in their role.

What will delegates learn on the course?

On this course delegates will learn how to:

  • Spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health
  • Start potentially difficult conversations around mental health
  • Communicate in a non-judgemental manner
  • Provide help to prevent the mental health problems developing into a more serious state
  • Promote the recovery of good mental health
  • Provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem
  • Signpost to appropriate forms of support and treatment
  • Break the stigma of mental health problems

What do delegates get on completion of the course?

The training is fully certified and follows the internationally recognised Mental Health First Aid England (Adult) course. On successful completion of the course delegates will be a qualified Mental Health First Aider and will receive a certificate from Mental Health First Aid England.
